We all love Memorial Day weekend. Some can say it is the best holiday weekend of the year. It kicks off Summer as we know it, most people get an extra day off of work, the kids stay home from school for a long weekend, the pool officially opens, and we traditionally celebrate with fun, food, and friends in the beautiful weather. What's not to love?
Wikipedia sums it up best, "Memorial Day is a US federal holiday wherein the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces are remembered. The holiday, which is celebrated every year on the final Monday of May, was formerly known as Decoration Day and originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate
soldiers who died in the Civil War. By the 20th century, Memorial Day
had been extended to honor all Americans who have died while in the
military service."
While we celebrate our friends and family, we need to keep the true reason to celebrate Memorial Day in our hearts. The only reason
we have the freedom to get together for fun, food, and friends is
because there are those who have sacrificed their lives for us, to
protect our great country and it's values. They were our friends, our
family, our protectors.
